Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
It looks really good for a start. We will now move to the 15* cam angle with vtec at 4500 still. Take this one for the same type of datalog and driving style.

Thanks! Just uploaded the new revision. Will send over the new logs soon. Thanks!

Hey there! Btw, what's your name if you don't mind me asking? I'm Justin. Again, I really appreciate all the help.
I was not able to do the same type of driving since I had to run and do some errands but was able to get some data logs. Let me know if you need anything different. This one felt better than the last. How's everything looking so far?
Normal driving - This is how I would drive most of the time on an average day - https://computerhale-my.sharepoint.com/ ... ?e=HsuDDj
WOT1 - https://computerhale-my.sharepoint.com/ ... Q?e=X9rujE
WOT 2 - https://computerhale-my.sharepoint.com/ ... Q?e=LK7Pdc

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
You're welcome. Yeah that last datalog looked great again. The MAF scaling is just about dead on now so we're really just working on the WOT fueling now and looking for knock, or lack thereof hopefully.
Yeah the 0* cam angle is very boring to drive on, but for a starting calibration it gives us a nice base and stops a lot of moving parts from interfering with us. That's why I warn guys before hand, just to calm expectations on the first one.
We will now move to the 30* cam angle with vtec now at 5500. We move vtec up and down over the next few revisions to try to find the ideal vtec engagement RPM and fueling before and after the engagement. Take this one for the same type of drive and datalog.

Hey man, thanks. Will load it up and send over the datalogs later today. Sounds good.
I was going to mention that 4500 seemed a little low for the engagement but glad to hear it is set at the ideal point.
Also, quick question. I kind of got used to driving with Rev hang. Does enabling and disabling rev hang change the way you are tuning the car or is it just the check box that you enable and disable?
Thanks!

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Sounds good. Yeah having it at 4500 gives us some simple data as the 0* and 15* cam angle aren't involved in the vtec crossover engagement, so I try to get you guys through those cam angles quickly, then capture more data on the 30* and 40* to use for vtec and cam angle mapping. Before, we had to make 8-10 revisions just to get the data we needed, now I can cut it down by a few revisions to save you guys time and get you to having fun quicker.
You can turn on the rev hang if you'd like, it doesn't cause any issues on my end. I went ahead and turned it on for you and make another revision for it. So upload this one before your drive, and we'll leave it on from now on if you like it that way.

Sounds good. Thanks! And just so I understand for future reference if I wanted to turn off rev hang. Just uncheck the box for revhang?
Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Correct. It won’t impact the tune in any way. It’s just a drivability thing, same with the throttle dampening in first gear option.
Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Sounds good thanks. The motor is starting to sound real aggressive! Like it's mad! Haha I like it.
I think I mentioned this to you but if I didnt, my main goal is safety and longevity of the motor>smoothness for daily/spirited driving and occasionally mountain runs>performance.
Not sure if that changes anything. Thanks again!
Went to do the datalog today and lots of undercover cops on the road. May have to take a little further drive later to another spot.
I'm really enjoying this process and willing to do as many revisions needed to get it dialed in. Thanks!

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Yeah as we move up in cam angle it starts to get a little more aggressive sounding. It's just the nature of the engine and the cam angle rotation. If you ever add a big tube intake like the Hybrid Racing or Skunk 2 it will really scream.
I don't tune for all out performance, so you're all good. My tuning is based on making the engine happy and optimizing what it wants, not what I think it should want. I don't do anything in the tune saying most cars like this so I am going to do that. If your engine shows knock, I remove timing until it's gone or address the root cause. This is also why I like tuning each cam angle and then blending out the tune. I don't like giving people completed basemaps with everything set and then making it work off that. Dialed fueling and no knock are my two no compromise aspects of the tunes. I don't take risks with peoples cars, I treat them as if they are my own.
No problem, just keep me in the loop. Glad you're enjoying the process.

I love the sound.
Thanks for explaining and appreciate it!
Here's the files from today's driving.
Here's the one with 2 good 3rd gear pulls - https://computerhale-my.sharepoint.com/ ... ?e=kvbnGe
These were ones taken from normal driving if needed.

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Looks pretty good. We had some knock pop up in one area of the table on your highway cruising, so I made some adjustments there. I am also going to turn off the knock retard function for tuning so we can work on ignition without interference from the ECU. Now that it's a cooler time of year, we can do that since the intake temps are a little cooler. I will turn it back on towards the end once we get it completely knock free. That way when the warmer temps come on, it will pull timing and function as it does in OEM form.
Take this next one for a drive when you can. This will be the 30* cam angle again with vtec now at 4000. Same type of datalog and driving style for this one.

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Yeah overall it's looking really good. Still had some knock in the same area, so I made some ignition adjustments there. We won't be running that same cam angle in that area anyways, but I still want to address those knock.
We will now move to the 40* cam angle. This one will feel a little sluggish compared to the last few, the 40* cam angle isn't ideal for part throttle, but it will feel really strong in the midrange with your mods and then fall off again up top. This one will have vtec back up to 5500.
For the next two revisions, you can take them for quick ten minute datalogs if you want. Just be sure to get a clean third gear WOT pull, that's out main focus for these. If you want to take them for long datalogs still, that's fine, just saying they can be faster if you want.

Re: Aloha! Just got FlashPro for my 2008 SI, any tips or help?
Nice, good to hear that it is looking really good! And sounds good about this cam angle.
And sounds good. I just turn the datalogging on and there's a little drive to get to the location I can safely do the WOT pulls. Was this past WOT pull good? I'm pretty sure it hit the rev limiter. Never did that before lol and was surprised. I'll continue to do my long datalogs if its not a problem. I figure more data can't hurt.
Thanks again and will post up the new logs soon.
