Auto/manual swapped

Post by Hondaboyy420 »

Hi, I have a automatic 1994 eg8 sedan with a jdm d15b vtec which I have sent away to have a s300 installed. I also have a full manual conversion for it. Do I still have to bridge two wires up by auto shifter to trick it to thinking it's in park? And can I run a manual tune with my auto ecu? Thanks

Meant to say I have sent the ecu away, not the car lol

I'm not sure what wiring changes in the vehicle you will have to make to get it to work correctly.

So once it's manual converted will it have any issues with s300?

Converting the ECU from auto to manual should be simple. Once the S300 is installed and the ECU is converted to manual, you'll be able to run "manual tunes" and shouldn't have any issues.

Yes, you'll still need to do the wiring down by the shifter. It's been about 15 years since I did one (so double check before assuming I'm right), but I believe you need to wire 3 things at the shifter:
  • reverse light switch is now on the transmission instead of at the shifter, so you'll need to extend wires from the shifter harness out to the transmission
  • the car needs to think it's in park, or you won't be able to remove the key from the ignition cylinder on the steering column. Or, you could disassemble the cylinder and remove the solenoid that prevents key removal if the car isn't in park.
  • connect the two large gauge wires to take the shifter out of the starting circuit

So converting the ecu from auto to manual involves desoldering some pins am I right? Is it necessary?

So I get my automatic ecu back from hondata with s300 installed and just plug it in, do the manual swap and everything will work fine? Sorry for all the questions kinda new to this.

As long as the wiring in the vehicle is correct it should work.
