stock basemap knocking baddd

I was running the K&N sri basemap and noticed i was getting a good amount of knock every time i would hit high rpms, so i switched back over to factory basemap to be safe. I still am getting crazy amount of knock during pulls. Need help plz!!!!! ( Only mod i have is K&N Intake)

Have you tried removing timing from the area it is knocking?

no i have not, i am very new to tuning and know nearly nothing so it’s just scary to be getting knocks

It's not uncommon to get some knock even with the OEM calibration, so don't let your mind panic over what you have in this datalog. As Spunkster mentioned, going in and removing a few degrees of timing should do the trick. Where you are seeing knock, it's got maybe 2-3* more than I normally start guys on. If you don't feel comfortable making the adjustments I can help you with it if you'd like.

What is your exact setup and how long do you plan to run this setup? Do you have future plans for more mods?

That would be amazing if you could help! and right now i just have the k&n intake and that’s it. as i learn more about tuning im gonna be getting fbo and this summer me and my friends are gonna do the k20/24 hybrid build and turbo it but that’s far in the future i have much to learn and experience. But for this setup i would say at least 3 months. Thanks for the support

Okay sounds good. Do you like the way the car drives on the calibration you're driving on, or do you want to try my stuff to start and see how it goes? Starting you on my stuff would give us a little better platform to get you dialed quicker since it's already setup for the K&N intake using a hybrid calibration.

Awesome, here is the first one for you. We will see how this one looks and go from there. I double checked the ignition in this one for where you were getting knock in your calibration, this one has 2* less at point of knock. So this will give us a good idea of where we're at with knock and removing it. It might require more timing reduction, but this will get us started. For the datalogs, we need them to be 20-30 minutes with as much stop and go driving as possible. On the drive, make one wide open throttle (WOT) pull in third gear from 2500-8600 so we can see the WOT fueling. Anyways, take it for a spin when you can and we will see how it looks.

It looks really good man. Part throttle fueling is just about dead on, WOT fueling was a little rich. Best thing though, all the knock is gone in this one. Attached is the next one with the fueling changes for WOT. I think this calibration has too much cam angle in it too, but let's get this portion dialed for fuel and then we can do some more work on cam angle mapping if you have time. For now, take this one for the same type of datalog and drive. Feel free to have some more fun with it if you want, then we can see if it knocks. We may get one here and there, but that's all part of the process so we can remove it all.

Just went for a fun little run down my favorite backroads to push it a little bit harder but traffic was still a bit bad. Still lots of start stop traffic though. Heres my new logs. Yeah it looks like you had some fun there, that's good. We had five knock on that one, which is the whole point of having you get more aggressive with the driving so you can put the car in different scenarios. I went ahead and made some changes for that. I didn't see any clean third gear WOT pulls from 2500-8600 in this one, so try to get at least one of those on the drive so I can continue working on the WOT fueling. All the part throttle fueling is great, we just need to work on the WOT fueling a little bit. Take this next one for a drive however you want, just be sure to get at least one clean third gear WOT pulls in.

And you're welcome! Guys like you are why I like helping on here. It's fun getting you guys from frustrated to having fun with the car. Your concerns were valid, but I could tell it just had a little too much timing from where I am comfortable running you guys, so I figured it would be a rather simple fix. We'll get it knock free, then like I mentioned, if you have time we'll do some more detail work to get some more power for you, safely.
