s300 v2 on Windows 10

Post by Annihilator »

Hey all, sorry if this has already been covered, I've searched and am stumped. I'm trying to install my s300 v2 that hasn't been in a running car since 2013 into my new build. I have it all hooked up and my laptop (Windows 10 on a Panasonic Toughbook / intel core i5 processor) recognizes when the ignition get switched to on, but smanager still shows "offline". I've tried updating the USB drivers, but am having no luck. Can anyone please point me in the right direction to make this work? The tune currently on the ECU is for a turbo b18b1 where it needs to run a mostly stock d16z6 now instead.

From Help, About, what is the version of software you are using?

What does it show up as in the Windows device manager with the ignition on and the USB plugged in?

Inside Device Manager under the USB Controller category, it sees it as Hondata S300 ECU with a yellow exclamation mark. The details state that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Edit - Just for reference, the bottom left of s300 shows that the driver is installed, just that it is not online. The laptop plays the standard Microsoft "USB connected" noise when I turn the ignition on, so it's trying to send data at least.

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Have you tried using a different laptop?

Well, as an update to this post, I have a mixed bag of news.

I tried restarting the laptop I initially tried with multiple times and even uninstalled/reinstalled Hondata and drivers before trying another restart. No luck with that. This laptop will not allow the drivers to work properly for some reason.

The good news is that I was able to go super overboard and install my old Windows 7 desktop in my garage after moving our Verizon wifi router in there as well (Smanager gets stuck in a loop checking for updates if you're offline apparently.) After getting it installed and online, it connected without a hitch (after a restart of the desktop to make the drivers show up as installed.) I'm super pumped that the car is FINALLY running again now that it let me upload a correct (stock p28) tune.

The bad news is that this is not a long term solution once I start modifying this d16. My wife is bringing home her work laptop and I will attempt to install smanager on that one and see if maybe it will work. I'm thinking it may be a USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 issue? I'll update later when I get my hands on another laptop to try.
