New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
Hello,
I recently purchased a flashpro, and today started using it on my civic si. My current build is all stock except for a K&N intake. I flashed the prebuild calibration for the K&N v2 SRI. After I flashed it, I datalogged driving around for 30 Minutes. Overall, the car felt different. For one thing, the engine seems to be louder as I get into the 4000+ RPM range. Another thing that I noticed was that VTEC seemed a lot different. Before I flashed the tune, there would always be a definite boost where the vtec would kick in, and it would always kick in at around the same RPM range. However, when driving around today, it seemed pretty finnicky, and I rarely actually "felt" the VTEC really pull me forward. I have attached the datalog, and would appreciate some guidance as to what I should be looking for in my data, as well as some information about the VTEC. Thanks!

Definitely don't drive it anymore until you get this cleaned up. You had 812 knock events in that 22 minute datalog.
Can you give me a little more info on the setup. You have just the K&N intake right, no aftermarket motor mounts or stiffy torque mount or anything right?
I am guessing you're running 91 octane?
Let me know. But please don't drive it until me or someone helps you with this. If you do need to drive it somewhere, just keep the driving normal and calm, no wide open throttle (WOT) pulls basically.

Just the K&N intake. And yes, 91 octane. What should I do to fix the knocking? And would it be better to return to the stock calibration?

Also, I read somewhere that sometimes the sensors sense knock that isnt actually there. Could that be the case rn?
Re: New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
I’m not at my computer right now, but if I remember rught from your datalog it had probably 3* or more timing than I would be comfortable with on 91 octane. You might have similar knock on the stock tune as well. Do you plan on driving anymore today?sneaky_dude wrote: Sun Aug 29, 2021 11:59 am Just the K&N intake. And yes, 91 octane. It is possible with aftermarket engine mounts, torque mounts, cams, header, etc. It would be a little weird on your setup though to have false knock. And that many knock would be excessive if it was false knock, but anything is possible.sneaky_dude wrote: Sun Aug 29, 2021 12:02 pm Also, I read somewhere that sometimes the sensors sense knock that isnt actually there. I can send you a file tp start on when I get back to my computer in a couple hours if you want. Then we can work on cleaning things up and getting rid of the knock.
Re: New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
Okay, Give this one a drive and let's see how it looks. If we still have a lot of knock, there is either false knock or something mechanically wrong. Either way, let's see how it looks and go from there. You can make a 10 minute datalog to check for knock.

Re: New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
Thanks for the help so far!
I flashed your setup to my car and took it for a drive. I did not drive the car hard. I took a short datalog of the drive. As to your comments about the aftermarket engine mounts ect., as I bought the car used, ill have to look tomorrow morning to see if the car has any of those. Since I need to drive to work tmrw, i will drive on the factory tune, as that is what I have been driving with for the past 6 months of ownership. Ill try to remember to datalog some of the drive with the factory tune to see how bad the knock is on that. Regarding the file that you uploaded, is that essentially the hondata K&N SRI tune with only changes to the knock sensing? Thanks so much for the help again!

Based on the data in the datalog there I don't think you have any odd issues. You only has 7 knock in this datalog and they were in normal areas. In the next datalog, go ahead and drive it for 20-30 minutes to get a good mix of driving in. While on the drive, make one wide open throttle (WOT) pull in third gear from 2500-8600.
From what I see in this one, I don't think you have false knock or aftermarket engine mounts. On 91 octane, they can be very sensitive to knock with too much timing. 91 octane is okay in the sense that it is all we can get in some areas, but it isn't as good as 93 in terms of ignition limits. I am pretty sure you just have too much timing in the other calibration as it was designed for 93 octane. I compared your first datalog with the new one, and where you were getting a ton of knock at part throttle is now down to 7. You had hundreds of knock in that area, now 7. If you had an issue of some sort those knock would still be there, or at least 90% of them. Going from hundreds to 7 means it is ignition that caused.
No the file I put you on is my basemap I built. There isn't much in there that is Hondata basemap. If you would rather be on the Hondata basemap I can transfer the ignition tables and go that route. But I would think you would be happier continuing with my file. Just let me know.
Anyways, here is the next one. Feel free to drive on this one, I would say this is better than driving on the factory calibration based on factory calibrations having more ignition that mine. But it's up to you, whatever you're comfortable with. Just let me know how I can help and in what capacity.

Drove the new calibration to and from work today. Datalogged the trip there. What differentiates your calibration from the hondata one? And does your calibration add any benefits such as power, vtec adjustment ect?

Re: New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
It would be hard to list everything that is adjusted. Things like fuel tables, ignition tables, pressure determination for WOT, pressure determination for vtec, throttle pedal map, cam angle map, cam angle follow vtc tables on decel, etc. Basically things to make it drive a little smoother and make it do what we want it to do a little more is all.
Overall it looked pretty good. We had a 27 knock on the WOT pulls you made since we didn't get to address those in the previous datalog. So I reduced the ignition in those areas. In the next drive, try to get a datalog with stop and go type driving so we can work on the fuel tables. This one had you doing a lot of highway steady speed driving which gives us a very small sample data size. There also wasn't a WOT pull from 2500-8600, but I made some WOT fuel adjustments based on the small pull you made in third gear. We should hopefully be able to get some power, though with just a K&N intake we won't be able to get too much, that and your car is very sensitive to knock in vtec compared to most cars so we have to be very conservative on the timing. Once we get things lined out, we'll work on finding the ideal vtec engagement rpm, right now I'm just concerned with getting the knock cleared out and cleaning up any fueling areas I can based on the datalogs. Once we get the knock out, we can sort of relax and focus on optimizing everything as best we can for your setup.
It should be a lot better on this one. We'll see how the knock looks and go from there.

Sorry this took so long. Between work and torrential rainfall, I couldnt do any datalogs until now.

Re: New to flashpro. looking for guidance in the right direction
Made a couple changes for knock. I think we're getting there on the knock, just a little sensitive in the one area still. I also made a few WOT fuel changes, the longest pull was only up to about 7000rpm, so try to run them out to 8600 if you can. But I did make the changes I could based on the data.
Same datalog and driving style.

Looked good, still a couple knock, some in a new area. The fueling looks good, so we're really close.
Here is the next one, same datalog and driving style.

Sorry that this took so long. Between full time job and full time school, I have not had time to do any recreational driving until now
