2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
I am new to this but I have order the Flash Pro for my 2013 SI Coupe and will be getting it later this week. I have only made a couple of changes, I added an aFe takeda air intake and Injen cat back. I really don't plan on doing much more and this is my daily driver and not looking to turn this into a racer. Should I start with the Stock Reflash or the CAI-Catback map? I am sure there will be some fine tuning after installing but that is something I will have to try to figure out since I don't have experience with tuning. Also, is there any people or shops that review your datalog that can help with fine tuning? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John

Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Being that you have an aftermarket intake, it would be better to give the "short ram, cat delete, catback exhaust" calibration a shot first if you want to run a Hondata provided basemap. The one for a CAI and exhaust is designed for an RBC intake manifold which you do not want, it will be very far off and throw a check engine light. Otherwise, if you want help tuning I can help you with it, we would start you on a file I have and tune it for your car. There are certain things you want to do for datalogging, so let me know which route you want to go and I can help guide you in that direction if you want. The main thing is not loading any calibration and going out and beating on it. You always want to make a datalog first to see how things look before you go out and drive it aggressively.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Thanks for the info and suggestions. I was going to start with a base map since I don't know a lot about tuning. I don't plan on doing much more if anything to the car since this is my daily driver and not looking to turn it into a full our racer. Just want to get a good tune for what I have. I don't know how good the base maps are so if you think getting a custom tune is the way to go then I am all in.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
No problem. You don't have to worry about tuning it to be a racecar, only careless tuning practices would aim for that. The main point of tuning them is to get good fuel trims, good WOT fueling, and aim for 0 knock as your goal. It's up to you on which route you want to go, once you get the FlashPro you can always load that calibration and take it for a drive. If you like the way it drives, then we can clean up that file for you and make it dialed for your car. Depending on what octane fuel you run, you need to look for knock and overall fuel trims. But if you like the way it drives, then those are easy to clean up in most cases. In the mean time, look into how to datalog and all that so once your FP lands you know how to datalog so you can post one on here for us to look over if you want.

Sounds like a plan. I mainly use Shell V-Power 91 octane. I will load the base map you suggested later this week and see how it feels. I will also record some datalogs as well. I monitor my AFR with the stereo head unit, it currently runs around 14.7 under normal load and 10.5 ish with WOT. Will see what happens after the flash. Thanks again for the advice and help, it is much appreciated.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
With 91 we will want look for a high knock count early on and address any we have. 14.7 is good for partial load, 10.5 is a little rich for WOT on an NA car. We will try to pull that back to roughly 12.8 or so to be safe.
We’ll see how it goes, just keep me in the loop.

Sounds good. As for the gas its 93 not 91,my mistake. I will let you know once I get the unit and get the map installed. Have a good week.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Got the base map you suggested installed. Overall no major issues after the flash, looks like a couple of knocks from what I could tell from the logs. The one thing I did notice is that when I come to a stop at a red light the RPMs like to dip a little below 700 then level out. I did some highway driving and some stop and go logs. I didn't want to push it until we could review the logs and confirm no major red flags.

Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Overall it's not too bad. The few knock that it had isn't terrible and would be easy to clean up. If you like the way it drives, I would recommend locking it on one cam angle at a time and tune them all to get the best calibration out of it. As far as the idle dropping, most likely just things not being optimized for your car since it's just a basemap. You didn't really do any wide open throttle pull of any sort, so no way to know how the WOT fuel looks.
Yeah so let me know if you like the way it drives, if so, we can work on this. Or I can set you a basefile to take for a drive and see what you think there. It's up to you.

Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Thanks for taking the time to look them over. I will do some WOT pulls and upload them. Cant really tell a whole lot about the overall performance since I was taking it easy until I was sure there was no issue with the base map but it felt pretty smooth. I will see what it feels like tomorrow doing some harder pulls. As for optimizing vs your basemap, whatever you think is the best route. I am new to this and have no clue what it takes to dial in the map I currently have vs your basefile. Thanks again for the help with this.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
You only need to do one WOT pull in third gear from 3000-7300 to see how it looks, no need to make a bunch, we just want to see what you're working with is all.
Both calibrations take some time to get them where someone would be happy with them. Since you plan to run this setup for a while without adding parts, it's smart to take the time to dial it since you will be running this setup for a while. The only difference between the file you are on and mine is some different setting and some things to make it command different fueling to smooth out the driving experience and control the fuel trims better. We'll see how your datalog(s) look from today and go from there.

Here is a 3rd gear pull. Overall it feels more lively once i get up in the RPMs and the vtec kicks in.

Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Yeah it's very rich throughout the WOT pull, plus IMO it has too much cam angle for the mods you have which will leave some power on the table as well.
Since you plan to kjeep these same mods for the foreseeable future, if you want to spend the time to tune it right by going through each cam angle and then blending everything out we can do it that way. I can send you a basemap to get started, then it will take about five revisions to tune all cam angles, then another handful to smooth everything out, so maybe 10-12 or so in total. Or we can do it the quicker way which is a little less detailed for your car specifically, but just as safe.
Let me know which route you want to go. If you want to stick with the Hondata basemap, I can pull the fuel as needed for WOT. But I think if you have time to make datalog, going the long route will give you the best product into the future.

Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
I am fine with the longer route since I am not going to change anything, worth spending the time to get it set up as good as possible considering I don't have a local tuner in my area.
Re: 2013 SI Starter Map Suggestions
Okay sounds good. Where are you located roughly and what octane are you running?
