Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Sure haha can't wait to just try and see tomorrow. Very curious to how it will feel tomorrow but yeah I will let you know how I feel about where I want it tomorrow!
Makes sense haha I guess its the early days of tuning with everyone learning what does what. I would have been like those people thinking that lowering it is more power but yeah now with i-VTEC and modern tools its insane how much data there is. Makes sense with the full throttle I did notice the difference when I slowly approached VTEC and WOT in VTEC. Very cool haha. Now I was reading for the fun of it about VTEC killer cams. Is that basically just full time VTEC? Looked cool but seems more for actual racing haha.
Yeah haha this intake is great but I can agree I bet it would be better with a couple more bolt ons but I will probably decide on that next year instead. Damn that sounds awesome Im excited to get all that stuff soon. Sounds like one fun package on your car makes me want it even more now haha just the shifter feeling alone sounds amazing. I was looking I think the previous owner put in the 9th gen si shifter. I didn't even realize that haha feels great I just assumed it was stock LOL. I was thinking about going with something like this though seems nice: https://www.battlecraft-parts.com/colle ... shift-knob
or this just for the grip I guess
https://wearelikewise.com/collections/s ... he-daytona
but yeah I will probably rock this shift knob for a bit anyway as the feel is nice.
Thanks

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Hmm something odd has happened with this datalog. For some reason it is 404MB which is insane. Not sure why this time its so large. Any ideas? And should I just upload this one or email it to you?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Yeah I never messed with the early generic fuel tuners, but I had a lot of friends that did. Before I was into Honda's, all I heard was them talking about vtec and wanting to lower the engagement RPM. Vtec killer cams basically remove the vtec system as far as how it changes over to the high cam, mostly by making it just a high cam. So instead of driving around on a mild cam like you do now, then a more aggressive cam when you go into vtec, it's basically just the high cam all the time. Which is all you need for racing, plus it remove a lot of rotational mass in the valvetrain. They wouldn't be that great on the street, and I they don't recommend it. Back in the day, as I was getting into Honda's I would hear how guys would not use vtec for their race cars, now I understand why. When you're younger, it doesn't make sense until you've been around it. Haha
The previous owner might have swapped a new aftermarket shifter or shift knob in, but the shifter assemblies are different. For some reason, the shape of the 9th gen shift knob worked better for me and the TWM shifter I had at the time. The options you post might help, all depends on your driving style or overall feel.
My email is in the "calibration" tab of the files I send you, if you don't have it already. You can email it to me if it's too large to send.

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
I have emailed this datalog to you! Though sort of odd that past datalogs were like 5 MB and all of a sudden this one is like 404MB. Any ideas why?
Also I am curious how the performance is on this datalog haha with the 4000 vtec. I didn't mind it actually was great but I felt 4300 was still better but I am curious to what you felt performed better.
Thanks

Not sure, I the one I downloaded from you was just about the same file size. 369kb was your last one, this one was 414kb.
Overall it looked great. Had a couple knock show up in one spot, right where we've been working on for a while now. But the part throttle fuel looks great again, and I made a couple 1% changes to the WOT fuel. We're pretty much there it looks like. But take this one for a spin and we'll see. From the data, it does look like the 4300 engagement is better. So your butt dyno seems to be accurate, at least from the data I see. I put everything back to use the 4300 vtec point again.

Awesome thanks! hahah I guess I wasn't feeling so crazy hahaha 4300 just felt right. I will be able to grab the datalog for this one on sunday when I return from a quick work thing. Also weird haha no idea maybe its just not reporting the right size for the datalog I guess.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Wow this datalog size is back to normal haha. Sorry I didn't upload yesterday I got home really late. Anyway here is the next one! I got my spark plugs in so I might install them sometime this week I mean it obviously won't affect anything but who knows considering they might have never been changed haha.
I was curious for the light to flash for the knock does it have to be multiple knocks before a light comes on in the dash?
Thanks

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Looks really good. I made a couple small changes to the WOT fueling around vtec since we are sticking with 4300 now. This one should be it, we'll see how it looks.
I don't know how much the check engine light flashes honestly, whether it is quick is long, but it should do it every time it registers a knock. You didn't have any knock in this one so it won't flash.
Here is the next one, we'll see how it looks, this might be the one. We'll also make sure all is good after you get the new plugs installed.

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Alright here it is the next one. Feels awesome tonight haha car wants to just keep going hahaha.
Sorry I should have worded it better I mean like what conditions makes the light turn on is it just 1 knock or if it detects multiple haha
Thanks

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
It should flash on 1 knock count. If you fill up with gas and notice it starts flashing quite a few times, that would be a good signal to take it easy meaning you might have got some bad fuel. If you see a random one here and there it's no big deal. But yes, it should flash on one knock as it records it in the ECU.Moist wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 9:39 pm Alright here it is the next one. That one looked great. Fueling was dead on for WOT, fuel trims and idle fuel trims were great as well with no knock again. Go ahead and make another datalog on Thursday, then we'll make another one this weekend and make sure it's all good. We might be there now, we'll see how the datalogs look over the next few days. Glad you're happy with it, things look great!
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Awesome glad to hear haha. I will grab one tomorrow!
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Here is my next one! I was curious if I was able to get a tune with the oem throttle mapping or something linear in addition to the sport pedal to test out. Just cause when I was driving with the sport throttle at high rpms it felt super twitchy but that might be maybe because I had my foot slightly on it LOL but yeah was taking some corners and the car would act twitchy with the throttle high up. I might just have to make sure my foot is actually fully off that may be why but ah well would be good to test.
Thanks

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Yeah it looks good overall. Had a knock in a weird area, but I went ahead and cleaned it up a little there. Also made a second file with the OEM pedal, or at least the one from the "factory settings" calibration since that is the closest we have. See what you think, other than that I didn't make too many changes. We can always try the base pedal from the original files too, but this is the sport and the OEM pedal.

Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
Awesome thanks! I will test it out it was sort of a weird feeling with how the car was reacting so I just wanted to see what it is like with the oem haha. I will grab a datalog tomorrow just to drive around and test the pedal.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Help with a tune for a 2008 Acura CSX Type S
I think I might no what you were feeling, it might have been kicking in and out of open loop on your part throttle high rpm driving. I made some adjustments to the WOT lambda table to address that. I don't think it would be the pedal map, but let me know. It will probably feel super weird now with the OEM pedal. I hated the way the pedal felt in my 8th gen until I got tuned. It felt so disconnected in my head.
