ECU main board component - what does it do?

Post by AngryScottish »

While adding a connector for the digital and analog headers, I accidentally snapped off a round component on the main board with polarity symbols.

I did my best to solder it back into place, but in case it didn't work, what does that component do so I know what to expect if things don't work?

I've attached a photo with the component circled in yellow.

It is a capacitor and is required for the ECU to operate properly. I cannot tell you specifically what it is for.

Do you know if the ECU will power up if that capacitor isn't connected (or properly connected)?

Trying to determine a way to test if I soldered it enough for it to perform it's function.

I can't tell you what it will do if it is not connected properly. You will have to test and see if it works as it should.

Thanks for the response -- pointing it out as a capacitor was actually pretty helpful.

I'm going to just solder in a new one properly, and hope for the best.
