Is there a scalar option to reduce sensitivity of the stock knock sensor so it won't pull timing on a built application?

I need someone to explain to me how to hook up each piece of hardware and what I need to do with the software to get this stuff to work. THIS shouldn't be this difficult...it should just be plug and play. Explain as if I were the dumbest person you ever met! Thanks
