Indeed it is a virgin ecu.

However, some Ecu's from say, California are "chipped" from the factory. I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have even more down time, if I am contacted to send more money. I would prefer to send enough up front, and just get it all done at once.

no. Your's is fine. The board in the upper right is for the knock sensor circuitry which a P28 doesn't have. The picture that Hondata is providing is a P72 most likely.

this had me stumped for months when I first got my S300 years ago. It doesn't say anywhere that you have to do this, I just guess that people have to know it.


Anyway, try this:

whatever ECU you have socketed is the basemap you need to start with. For instance, you cannot upload the stock P72 ...

oh, and I need to know if my price will be the $75 it mentions on the main page for a virgin socketing, or if I'm going to get a call wanting more money because I have one of the P28's that has a factory modification. (the p28 with the chip in IC3 that has the copper tape on the top)

I was just wondering, if I'm going to send a virgin P28 in for socketing, do I need to contact Hondata first to let them know it's coming? Or am I just supposed to send a cashier's check with an ecu to some address and cross my fingers?


I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has sent in their ecu's ...

I suppose that is probably my case as well. I cannot see why or how any of the Hondata stuff would fail. And OBD-1 Honda ECU's are prone to fail.


Does anyone know if Hondata sells the s300 ecu kit by itself? Without another S300?

95 civic LS/VTEC-T: 3 bar map, 780cc build. The hondata is tuned for this car. This is the car that will not start now. I tried a stock P28 in the civic, just to see what would happen, and the stock P28 won't start it either. My question was: would a stock P28 start an ...

I did open up the ecu, and I can't "see" anything wrong. I checked that the S300 board was seated properly.

I ran out of time tonight, but I'm gonna cut the J1 tomorrow, and see how the ECU runs the teg. I don't want to drive it too much, as a stock P28 still isn't such a good thing to run a GSR ...

Is there any reason that you guys can think of that would cause ECU socketing to go bad over time?

ECU was socketed by me about 3 years ago for an S300. Car was tuned, and has been driven ever since.

I would love an answer to this as well. My car started doing this EXACT same thing.

I find that when I enable secondary tables, it goes away and the car runs fine. But the secondary tables have NEVER been used before, and they weren't tuned.

Still, I don't see why this is a problem. It started ...

also, as for the wiring, when I swapped everything, I swapped everything. Including the wiring. I took the front half of the car, and put it on another car.

can you explain why the VTEC works properly if I enable the tables and change nothing else?


I would just run with them enabled, but my tuner didn't tune them. So I'm at some sort of risk. It doesn't make sense to me that the car runs properly with the secondary tables enabled, and not with them ...
