I wired the red wire to a18 as instructed and selected the alternate kpro speed input radio button. Though those settings suggested did not work for this setup. It is a 01 civic with a d17. I ended up with a smoothing of 4 and revs per km of 410 ...

Got a hondata kpro v4 which is a genuine unit I purchased directly form a dealer. Unit is installed in a base rsx auto ecu which is missing the vss input.
